Course Description
The West and the World begins at a time of profound change in Europe and the rest of the World. The 15th Century saw Europe move from its medieval past into the early phase of the modern age. Moreover, during this century, overseas exploration would lead to contact and ever increasing interaction among peoples worldwide. Throughout this period of dramatic change, a religious challenge would divide Christendom and lead to proselytism on a scale never seen before. Kings and Queen rule by divine right but start to lose their power as the centuries unfold and philosophers challenge old worlds beliefs. The course end by looking at the roots of 20th century conflicts.
