Ms Bouttell's Classroom Policies
1. Each student will be assigned a numbered textbook to borrow for the semester.
2. Students must bring pencils, pens, and paper to class.
3. Parents or students may contact the teacher at (613) 820-9705 during regular school hours. The parent will be contacted by the Teacher, as needed, to improve the educational opportunities of the student. Please refer to the student agenda for reporting dates and other important event dates at St. Paul High School.
4. The teacher will provide extra help/time for students when needed. The student must make the arrangements with the teacher in advance. If the student has an IEP, and requires extra time and support, they are encouraged to schedule their tests or CPT's with their resource teacher.
Use of Technology in the Classroom
Cell phones are not permitted in the classroom. Student will be asked to return their cell phone to their locker. Students may be permitted to use Smart Phones for educational purposes only and this will be teacher approved and directed.
Attendance/Tests/Assignment Submission
1. Students are expected to attend class daily, to be punctual and to fully participate in all classroom activities.
2. Students must give the teacher adequate notice of absence due to extra-curricular activities and must take the initiative to catch up on missed course work before or upon return.
3. If a student is to be away the day of a test, their parent must call the school to approve their absence on the day of the test. If they miss a test without an approved absence or direct communication with the teacher, a 0 will be given.
4. Computer problems are not accepted as a reason for a late assignment. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due they must submit it to [email protected] before 3:30 pm on the due date.
5. "Students must also understand that there will be consequences for not completing assignments for evaluation or for submitting those assignments late.
Where in the teacher’s professional judgement it is appropriate to do so, a number of strategies may be used to help prevent and/or address late and missed assignments. They include:
• asking the student to clarify the reason for not completing the assignment;
• in secondary schools, referring the student to the Student Success team or teacher;
• taking into consideration legitimate reasons for missed deadlines;
• holding teacher-student conferences;
• providing alternative assignments or tests/exams where, in the teacher’s professional judgement,
it is reasonable and appropriate to do so;
• deducting marks for late assignments, up to and including the full value of the assignment."
